The Joint Waste Strategy

The four Unitary Authorities of South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol and North Somerset and have formed a partnership which is committed to planning for and providing this area with modern, efficient and environmentally sound waste management systems.

Already each authority has made great strides in recycling and composting, reaching between 31% and 40% across the area in 2006/07, which is an excellent base to build on.

We are working together to address the issue of municipal residual waste through a Joint Waste Strategy which will identify new treatment facilities. These will help us meet our obligations under the Landfill Allowance Trading Scheme, as well as take account of the national Waste Strategy published in May 2007.

The Waste Strategy will be guided by the Waste Hierarchy
